What is XRP?

XRP was created in 2012 by San Francisco based company – Ripple. XRP was designed as a high-speed, inexpensive means of transferring currency globally on the RippleNet. The XRP tokens can be sent directly between networks without the need for an intermediary. XRP uses a consensus mechanism known as the XRP Ledger Consensus Protocol to allow for fast, global transactions and has released a native USD-pegged stablecoin, called RLUSD. 

Several fund managers have filed applications to release spot ETFs containing XRP throughout 2025, including Franklin Templeton.
