Swyftx is partnering with the Children's Hospital Foundation to help the Foundation accept digital asset donations.
The tie-up will allow the Queensland-based Foundation to accept crypto-assets like bitcoin for the first time, with the proceeds supporting research and equipment and on-the-ground support for patients and families at Queensland Children's Hospital.
Children from across Queensland, northern New South Wales and the Northern Territory travel to Queensland Children’s Hospital for life-saving treatment. One in three everyday patients come from outside of Greater Brisbane.
Charities have recorded a significant increase in cryptocurrency donations globally over the last few years, with more than AUD $1 billion donated via crypto in the United States in 2024.
A growing number of philanthropists, in particular, are using stablecoins and other crypto-assets as an alternative way to make donations to their chosen charities. Traditional cross-border bank transfers can involve intermediary fees, depending on the payment route.
Lyndsey Rice, Children’s Hospital Foundation CEO, said: "Our partnership with Swyftx enables us to welcome a new era of giving at Children's Hospital Foundation. Together, we’re making it simple, secure and impactful for cryptocurrency holders to help change the lives of sick and injured children.”
Swyftx Head of Partnerships Greg Oakford said: 'We're proud to partner with the Children's Hospital Foundation and support its hugely important work. As a local brokerage, a core pillar of Swyftx's Corporate Social Responsibility programme is giving back to the local communities in which we live and operate.'
Oakford said: 'The use of digital assets is a comparatively small but growing proportion of the philanthropic market and is often associated with larger donations. The average crypto donation is around 100 times larger than the average cash donation.
'Swyftx has supported a number of overseas philanthropists who want more of their donations to reach their chosen charities or other not-for-profits like universities.'
Children's Hospital Foundation joins a growing number of non-profits globally that now accept digital asset donations as an additional fundraising channel.
Donors looking to support children and families by using digital assets can find full instructions, approved wallet addresses, and the donation receipt form by visiting the official Children's Hospital Foundation page.
